Here an interview tactical media guru and director of the Institute of Network culture in Amsterdam Geert Lovink made with me on the addictive power of Memes. It is their crucial nature in my opinion and never it became as explicit as now. It is crucial to understand these characteristics of memes in order to develop responses to the current media environment. There is also a crucial shift in the way visual memes operate and in the very logic of communication design.

I'm ecstatic, I just found a way to use my art & design to help an environmental issue close to my heart, & leave a positive legacy for thousands of years! It's already a proven successful strategy & of course one day other factors may reduce its effectiveness but finding a greater purpose for my creativity has been a struggle for me for some years. I'll write about it soon. :)

I read this article "An Existential View Of Loneliness" years ago when I was lonely and it helped me think better about loneliness. Rethinking and changing my perspective of loneliness, so I hope it can benefit someone in some way by sharing it here. "Loneliness, on this view, is an experience to be welcomed rather than banished, for it brings us face to face with two of life's most important questions: What is life really all about, and how should I use my freedom to define myself?" General Theory of the Precariat
http://networkcultures.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ToD25-Precariat-AlexFoti.pdf
About the book
From the fast-food industry to the sharing economy, precarious work has become the norm in contemporary capitalism, like the anti-globalization movement predicted it would. This book describes how the precariat came into being under neoliberalism and how it has radicalized in response to crisis and austerity. It investigates the political economy of precarity and the historical sociology of the precariat, and discusses movements of precarious youth against oligopoly and oligarchy in Europe, America, and East Asia. Foti covers the three fundamental dates of recent history: the financial crisis of 2008, the political revolutions of 2011, and the national-populist backlash of 2016, to present his class theory of the precariat and the ideology of left-populist movements. Building a theory of capitalist crisis to understand the aftermath of the Great Recession, he outlines political scenarios where the precariat can successfully fight for emancipation, and reverse inequality and environmental destruction. Written by the activist who put precarity on the map of radical thinking, this is the first work proposing a complete theory of the precariat in its actuality and potentiality.
Also, your profile description reads that you teach at Swinburne Uni in Melbourne?! I graduated there early this year. I would love to hear more of your work :)

I'm so happy to be back on memefest! It's amazing to see you are still active on here Oliver, that's awesome to see! I haven't been on memefest for three years I think.
So tonight I have just watched the new Blade Runner 2049 movie for the second time! Blade Runner 2049 is blowing my mind, both in beautiful and amazing cinematography/acting and the many various topics it brings up. Such as futuristic SciFi slavery, cloning, technology, sex, power, control, authority, ethics etc. Then architecture, music, sound design, design disciplines that helped make Blade Runner 2049 film possible! Script writing too. There are so many tiny details in the film. Just an example is the way they portray a giant built man who wears tiny glasses creating part of his character profile is interesting. I plan on watching Blade Runner 2049 three more times this month while it's still in the cinema as it's not only entertainment for me, it's also for my own personal research for the cyber punk/glitch video styles, futuristic ideology/themes.
I hope I've convinced my comrades on memefest to go see Blade Runner 2049 at the cinema soon and indulge in watching it more than once. But don't watch the full movie trailers, if you watch the two official movie trailers for Blade Runner 2049 you'll basically see the entire movie which is huge spoiler. If you want surprises don't watch the movie trailers.
You can watch the first Blade Runner movie first, but it's not totally necessary, it just helps you understand the full story line if you watch the first movie.
This Blade Runner 2049 movie has come out at the perfect timing for me as I'm super interested in cyber punk/glitch video theme/style lately. I've gotten interested in Cyber Punk/glitches because of some new computer games I've found over the past two years that are currently being developed. Wanting to experiment with glitch videos now.
Another great movie to watch I recommend is the new movie called Atomic Blonde, came out in 2017. For some of the similar reasons as Blade Runner I love Atomic Blonde movie.
But above all else I hope to now be intellectually stimulated on memefest!

Hi there friends: I want to share with you a truly wonderful project that is more than worth your attention and support. A few days left to reach the goal of this crowdfunding campaign and your donation could really make the difference. Cups of nun chai is a memorial work for the 118 civilians that died in pro-freedom protests in Indian occupied Kashmir in 2010. One of my favorite art projects. But please see more on the link bellow and please do consider supporting the project financially (you will receive a lot in return)!

Description
I graduated from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2012 with a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communications Design. After a brief break to backpack through 9 countries in Asia by myself I moved across Canada to Toronto, Ontario to pursue my Master of Design at York University. My graduate research has been a visual exploration in addressing the mass commodification of factory farm animals, countering the absent referent of meat products and looking at ways to challenge the human gaze in the power dynamic between human as subject over factory farm animal as object. In the last 3 years I have had the opportunity to have a solo exhibition and a group exhibition of my work, self publish my first book on homelessness and am now working on my second, and have been invited to lecture at two conferences on the role of art direction in social cause campaigns. I have high hopes of incorporating the criticality in my creative work I have developed over the last few years into a future full time position in my field.
