Dialogue in our Times

Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

The concept of my work is to reflect the way technology has influenced how we communicate in various forms - democratically, through the media and intimately with our interpersonal relationships and communities. Its a simple statement of the modern time juxtaposed with current technology iconography to make a quick message of the current communication barriers and a new social etiquette imposed by technology and social media.
The idea is not to teach people these ideas, as it is already very familiar issue but its intentions are to open up the perspective of the impact its having on society in order for audience to be reflective in hope of re-establishing intimacy, connection and authenticity.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

I decided to use the form of A0 poster presented in a street environment away from the home and from any form of technology. These posters are aesthetically very simple in type, colour, familiar iconography in order to capture attention quickly and so that the message is received whole heartedly in matter of seconds.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

This communication project in my opinion will benefit society in providing a variety of perspectives to let the audience reflect on how wired up and reliant we are to technology and social networks from an intimate level right through to a political level. It also aim is to benefit society in that we begin to use technology and social media more intelligently and critically with respect to our communities and relationships.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

I personally learned a lot from this project. It has made me quite reflective about the ways I communicate, and there was quite a few realisations. I did a lot of thorough research on current progressive ideas from all over the world through watching a lot of talks and documentaries. This enabled me to put more knowledge behind my own intuitive ideas and rethink my values. It has also opened up interesting conversations between myself and my peers, gaining many different perspectives of the notion of dialogue.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

It is good communication work because it is simple, clean and the messaging is open to the audience’s interpretation. I think its also a little humorous to reflect the way society operates around technology and social media.

However I will only be able to judge whether it good or not if I have the ability to witness people reactions or if the they go unnoticed.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

I plan to implement my work through out the streets of my inner city neighbourhood in Melbourne. Id love to implement these poster in more isolated areas of Australia where progressive ideas aren't as common. A0 poster format is impactful and cost effective.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

Id like my posters to create an intervention effect on the way people use social media and their democratic voice more intelligently.
