Presentation of my new artwork "The Will" in collaboration with Arwa Ramadan in the frame of Interface Cultures exhibition "Unuselessness - The Useful Useless" presented during Ars Electronica festival (1.-6.9.2011 Brucknerhaus, Linz, Austria)
On the floor there is an Islam symbol of Allah square kufi made from conductive carpet. Near the carpet there are three pairs of slippers with mini vibration motors inside. When the spectators put on the slippers and walk on the symbol they feel the vibrations. The slippers are in the three colors of the US flag. The art piece comments on the military conflict between the US and Iraq and the ensuing terrorist attacks. It is not permitted to walk on the symbol of Allah. Everybody has the opportunity to choose. As does the person who makes a suicide attack.

Lenka, that's exciting. Do you have any images? Also, are you working together with Arwa Ramadan- the one you worked together at the Memefest workshop?
Yes Oliver, I made this with Arwa. She explained me more the theoretical part of the conflict. You can find some pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arselectronica/6052226495/in/set-72157627330011775/lightbox/
I will put a video documentation later on vimeo. You can also check my facebook wall where I put all links, pictures and press about this project.
looking good. would like to see more and know more about the project.
let me know when there is more to see...
good luck with it!
Very interesting piece, its nice to see you guys collaborating even after the workshop!
Dear Lenka and Arwa — congratulations to both of you on the recent achievement. "The Will" is a dialogue that is much needed. It does not impose any doctrine on you but encourages you to literally place yourself in the shoes of those who wish to communicate a message that often gets lost in translation. This I hope is a start of many collaborations and would encourage other participants or members of Memefest to take the lead. Bravo!
