Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
My idea is addressing the issue of genetically modified vegetables. The concept of food security is shown in my work through the face mask. The face mask represents the harmful hormones and chemicals being injected in the food we consume on a daily basis. In a reverse of roles, the vegetables are the ones protecting themselves in contrast to the humans.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
I used visual communication, in specific a poster as it displays my idea in a very sharp way. The poster gets my idea through to the audience but also gives them a chance to observe and contemplate the message behind the work.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
My work will be able to act as a wake up call to the audience and raise awareness on the dangers of genetically modified food that we are consuming today. In my opinion, this would also provoke the audience due to the face mask that is often used to protect us humans against harmful substances.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
Before I entered the food democracy contest, i was vaguely aware of genetically modified food. However, once I began to do my research I began to realize that this in fact is a grave issue facing our generation today. People need to be more aware of what they are eating, in regards to their true contents. Questions need to be asked such as, where did my food come from? Do I really know what I'm putting through my body? How 'healthy' are these vegetables and fruits?
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
Its simple and straight forward. However, at the same time it sends a strong message to the audience with the minimal use of words and innovation in design.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
I intend to raise awareness on this matter within my community including family, friends and colleagues in university. Hopefully, I will be able to spark change in my community and their eating habits.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
I have found several videos, movies, posters and articles discussing the issue of genetically modified food. Most of the media I found carried the same message as my work being against this crime.
