Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
By having experience on the famer side of things, I have decided to take my knowledge of it further.
It is important to hear thoughts from other people, as that is the first way of fully understanding a topic. (In this case, Food Democracy)
Talking to my father and people in the community I soon realized they didn’t see it as Food Democracy, to them it was just their way of life.
After talking to people about the issue I soon found that there points on it were a great perspective to go from. They knew it as they have lived/living it.
From here I got my idea of THE INTERVIEW. I knew from the beginning I wanted to share their thoughts (people who are living the problem) with the people who just know of it.
I decided I wanted a simple visual communication that was able to sum up the point in a clear manner and so people could take it in and in short periods of time, such as walking past a poster.
I made a series of four posters. I made them colorful and in your face so from a distance it seem to have a good vibe about it and pull you in. From here I used four of my best quotes I had gained from the discussions I had with the farmers.
I placed the quotes bold and in your face. I hope that when people read them it leaves them to think about the work and the opinion of other people who are living in the problem.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
the communication approach has been used as posters. The posters are of large scale and very in-your-face. Posters are a good approach as they are easy, cheap and portable in ways. Also the campaign can extend further if wanted to flyers, T-shirts, brochures, ect.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
My projects benefits the public as a way of evoking emotion. it triggers feeling and understanding of a life they know of but haven't lived.
the client can benefit from this project as a way to communicate with the public through a conversation. conversations are the way people communicate and pass information so to express that process in design.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
Coming from a farming background i always just knew the issues as 'my life.' I knew of the issues with food democracy and the issues of the farming life but i never realised they were the same thing and that i was actually living the issues.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
My work is good communication because it is actually taking a conversation and turn it into design. I have found that through research quotes are more effective then a fact. A fact states an issue but a quote from someone triggers feelings inside you and really makes you process it.
Hopefully my designs evokes these emotions in the viewers.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
I want to place my works in busy public areas. i like the idea of people going about their day and coming across the statements. i like that they are colourful to draw you in yet are confronting and leave you thinking about the issue.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
