Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
I was analyzing the community conversation surrounding laptop computers. In studying the discussion there, I noticed two major factions in the community -- people who were interested in the computer's aesthetic and people who were interested in the computer's hardware and functionality. Though these two groups were wildly different, they each sustained discussion and did not adversely effect each other. I wanted to show the difference between the two sides of the same community.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
An analysis of the general type of community and discussion found around laptop computers shown through text and visual images.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
An understanding of the differing types of discussion found within the same community discussing the same item.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
A singular community can have many types of discussion on many types of topics. These discussions easily coexist without conflict and show the differing mindsets of the people within the community.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
It shows the stark dichotomy in the discussion clearly and concisely without distraction or unnecessary information.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
This work was mainly academic, so I intend to use the experience of creating it to further my design education and to open my eyes to the potential types of discussion that can be found in communities.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
No.
