Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
‘Billions tweet everyday, where is the sense of reality?’ is the question I’m raising in relation to the idea ‘Radical intimacies: Dialogue in our times’. Social media is taking over our sense of reality and priorities in many ways. Is making a tweet necessary unless you have a substantial amount of followers? Why feel the need to tweet or make a status to many insignificant followers, have we lost the need to talk face to face, or over the phone, or even personalized hand written notes that show much more personality than a simple status.
After looking at the idea of the comparisons between the twitter bird and the ‘carrier pigeon’ , I have reflected on the vast way communicated has changed, coincidentally, via ‘birds’. My image reflects the idea that rather than send a tweet to billions of followers, or none at all, people should make a return to ‘old school’ communication, and also back to reality. The image is of a bird that represents a more realistic version of the twitter bird logo, with billions of tiny twitter logos and other social media to represent that ‘billions’ have lost the sense of reality due to social media.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
The communication will be through print. The idea is to have this poster on the side of a building, somewhere where the poster can be really in your face and eye catching. I believe that posters are a good way to get a simple point across, and this poster does have a simple point, which can be very affective when enlarged.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
My poster will represent that social media has taken over peoples sense of reality when it comes to communicating.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
That people should return from their social media platforms and back to reality, back to more personalised forms of communications.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
My poster encourages people to go back to the ‘old school’ ideas of communication using an effective image and a strong question to go with it.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
I intend to show my poster on the side of a building or somewhere really large, which will be made of vinyl, so you can see the image really well. Another way of showing my poster will be through a projector, so it will be easy to see at night. I also intend to use the poster in the form of a ‘pull up banner’ and bus shelter posters for smaller posters if necessary.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
My poster is having an effect but not through social media. I tried to keep my intervention out of the social media world.
