Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
The Conversation Game reflects upon the poor state of dialogue in present times. Dialogue is necessary in almost every aspect of life, therefore it is expected that people are able to start one. The Conversation Game gives people an opportunity to come together with friends and have dialogue over the game; as well as give them some ideas next time they’re stuck without dialogue.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
A card game was chosen as the medium because it is portable, fun to interact with and will reach a lot of people. The game is free for download online and can be printed from any computer. It also allows people to create their own cards.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
Society will benefit from playing ‘The Conversation Game’ because it is an interactive game that will encourage social interaction. In a fun and interactive way the game makes the players aware of the social norms regarding conversations in certain situations. Playing the game encourages the players to discuss dialogue and at the same time bringing their attention to the importance of what we say on a daily basis.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
I learnt how many ways dialogue affects us and how it is important that we save it from regressing even further due to technology. I also discovered how hard it is to think of appropriate things to say in certain situations, often at the cost of dialogue. Researching my work made me more aware of the types of dialogue spoken and written in songs and plays and the way we use tone of voice and choice of words depending on our target audience.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
This work is eye-catching and fun. It allows for multiple levels of interactivity and brings people together in a fun and educational game. It’s a game that can be played and enjoyed by nearly all ages and is really simple to learn. Available for free online, the game is accessible to everyone and will reach all members of society.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
The game is available to download off the website for free, although it will need to be printed and cutout by the user. Another option is you can order the game; which will include the tin and comes already set-up. The game will be promoted on social media websites such as face-book and you-tube, to target audiences who use too much of this impersonal form of dialogue.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
The card game will be advertised on social media and will, hopefully, give people another reason to participate in face-to-face dialogue rather than the subjective communications of social media. The conversation ideas that the game inspires could also be used on these platforms, particularly in the chat section when you can't find anything to say.
