Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

Radical Intimacies suggest's dialogue is failing us, I instead ask the question is it our lack of dialogue or our lack of face to face interactions that is failing us? I instead put forward encouragement to get off behind the screen in which we are all so confident in having conversations on and instead putting forward let's say hello FACE2FACE. I also suggest have we come to this point of over used Cyber World instead of Earth World. Is other issues of self image, conformity and individuality within society having a play on this new behaviour and lack of confidence within ourselves. Is this the in between suggested from the peace march that we are missing to see?

What kind of communication approach do you use?

I've tackled the whole thing as a campaign, and my work has been created as a proposal. Starting with a personal account, moving to the idea of what is possibly the issue (from my opinion), then onto the real facts and issue, and finally the big idea and implementations of what will solve my findings.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

My whole project is set in Australia (where I am) and from my research I found Australians are the highest users of social media, therefore it's happening right here in my own backyard the idea of us becoming lost in cyber world! Therefore my communication is beneficial to highlight our issue of loosing face to face dialogue before we become Robotic! I know the information will reach these problematic users as I have conveniently have chosen to display my communication through social media sites.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

It's funny because conversations between friends and family have been coming up regularly about this topic of our dialogue now, before I had even noticed this festival project. So personally I was glad to known this has become a global awareness, and I found a new passion for creating design with purpose. I've always liked looking into activism design, like the projects done at Fabrica, but the project created quite a developmental experience for me. I have a new design mind set and I love it. I also did enjoy the fact I got to take a look at my own social media behaviours.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

It's targeted to help society! There is not more that needs to be said, aesthetic in this case is not the issue.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

I chose to implement my work through social media, as that's what I want my targeted users to get off! I created the FACE2FACE challenge, which would be viral across Facebook, and have supported material of web ads across all social media sites, and there would also be the opportunity to create the ads as print material for higher awareness. The challenge is based on the nomination challenges which work so well these days as there is high interaction with the market. My challenge for users is to take a video of them saying hello, or a whole conversation if they wish, to either a complete stranger, someone they haven't spoken too in a long time, someone they never have had the guts to talk too, or to top it off someone they stopped talking to! It's up to the user what they think will create change, and they nominate someone else to do it. The whole purpose of the challenge is to encourage people to be more confident in talking to others in person, making friends out on the street and not the random add we are all used to these days. Other than the support material of the web ads there will also be a FACE2FACE website, in which information on the issue can be found, and why FACE2FACE was implemented, also information on the challenge and events would be held to encourage more of the right face to face social behaviour we are shouting out for!

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

The proposal/campaign is all hypothetical, but I believe if something like this was done and awareness of our over used social media behaviours was seen, quite possibly our time on these sites should lower! At least for the time of the hype of it all, and then a new hype to keep the eradication of too much social media would have to be thought of.
