Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
Planet Ark is an Australia Environmental foundation. It is a Non Profit Organisation (NPO) which works in a non-confrontational way to reduce our impact on the Environment. Recently there has been a switch in the public perception of environmentalism, from recycling to sustainability. From the corner of the room I heard one of my lectures say "Why does is it always need to be green", and so I endeavoured to create a fresh logotype that represent the shift in the green movements agendas. A large percentage of the population can be found within the margins of sustainability, and unless the mission of organisations like Planet arks are properly communicated, they will never be persuaded to leave.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
This mark has been established and then adapted to a number of different applications. I tried to avoid traditional symbols of conservation, as these images have connotations attached to them that could pigeon hole Planet Arks public perception. Creating a mark that has a handmade natural feel was an important part of the initial concept generation. This idea led me on a path that also played with the symbolism of hands, a gesture of nurture and care.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
Explaining the commonsensical nature of a Planet ark is a step in the right direction in regards to promoting environmentalism. This has been represented by three symbols of sustainability; hydro, solar and recycling in the form of finger prints, a gentle symbol for humanity. The fingerprints interweave with the carbon footprint concept, although with a positive connotation which is then complemented by the playful tag, "As easy as one, two, tree".
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
Personally, I learnt a lot about living more sustainably. I had recently returned from an exchange to germany and was inspired by progressive measure put in place to reduce there impact on the environment. They were simple , yet effective and after researching Planets arks efforts i began implementing environmentally friendly habits into my day to day life.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
Fingerprints and hand prints are a harmless and positive representations of humanity. This organisation focuses on nurturing human beings relationship with the environment, but is also a proactive organisation that encourages people to volunteer and get their hands dirty.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
It was a students work so my audience was only my class mates, although it was quite well received.
