Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
My idea is based around people questioning their habits they have in current day, and how they affect what society was like in the past. In this case how the use and in a way addiction to social media and messaging has led to the loss of dialogue that we had before mobiles, when people used to converse regularly or even before messaging when people spoke via mobile.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
I approached my work by trying to develop and show the story of how technology has come, but to show how the growth of technology and social media has had an inversely proportional effect to how dialogue has developed, or has diminished over the past few decades. I wanted to show society how this age of interactivity is becoming interactivity within their own worlds, and how moving away from planned messages, by even working our way back through the technology developments to phone calls to create more spontaneous dialogue rather. Showing this I used a series of posters, which directly showed the issues that have burdened dialogue and created a form of monologue, showing representations of silhouettes of people from each stage of dialogue demise.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
My work is designed to benefit society by taking them on a journey from where we came from to where we have ended up, how far we have come from dialogue and how we are heading towards a monologue world. By visually representing this to society I believe it will bring people to consider how they act within society, no longer interacting in a social manner when people are out on public transport or in the street, drawing people out of their digital world and making them think that they still can call someone, or talk to someone face to face without feeling out of place.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
This project has been an interesting one for me as it taught me about something that I had been curious about before, the way that technology, bombardment of information and social media has turned us away from a fundamental human instinct and is teaching people to be more introverted. This project ultimately taught me, the way we approach technology and a society needs to change to preserve interaction and dialogue.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
Good advertising design work comes down to how well and how effective your work portrays a particular message. My design directly addresses the issue at hand of the loss of dialogue to the technological world, but also pushes people to question how they approached things before social media, then before the mobile phone, allowing society to draw the conclusions themselves as to why they now live in their own virtual world. The last sequence is directly aimed to get society to question their habits and how they could possibly be affecting future generations. The incorporation of this connection between the viewer and the work and it’s message is essential to good advertising design and it working within society.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
The nature of my approach to this project was to create a series, telling a specific story, in doing so It would need to be placed in a way that would show it in it’s entirety. The idea of placing it on windows in built up and prominent areas or the idea of bus shelters that have multiple advertising space to show the sequence is ideal.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
My Work hasn't had an effect on other media
