Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

My campaign aims to encourage people to bring internet based and online type communication to the public sphere by using reversal. I hope to raise this point and question to the public...

Not everything should be said through online presence, so why does it seem in this day in age that it is?

Above all else, the campaign will aim to provoke and encourage dialogue within real life by reminding people that there’s some things in life that are intimate verbal moments that cannot and should not be done and said in an online context.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

My campaign is in the form of “Dialogue as collaboration” as it aims to stimulate dialogue and question, however it dabbles within both “Co-Optive dialogue” through its use of dialogue context reversal, and “Conflict based dialogue” as it aims to create a little bit of conflict.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

The campaign aims to benefit the public by tapping into an issue that doesn’t seem to be acknowledged all that often in mainstream media. Internet culture and technology are mostly seen as good tools, and for the most part they are, however these objects and programs and networks should not be completely taking over everything we do in day to day life. My campaign with benefit the public by testing their awareness of this problem, and making them think about how they conduct themselves and in what ways they exchange dialogue.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

Through creating this campaign, I feel I’ve become more aware of the stated issue myself. Before I send a text with important dialogue, I think about if a text is how I want to say what I have to say with this person. If my campaign successfully does that for even half the people who see my work, then I feel it would have been a success.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

I think it’s a hard thing to decide if your work is good advertising work without actually putting it in a public sphere and testing it, however I feel my work has elements that would make it a good and successful campaign. The pieces of work all arouse questions and curiosity from the audience, which would mean further research into the campaign online and in other ways, would follow the viewing of any of the three pieces. As well as this, curiosity also results in talk and conversation between people who have seen the campaign and wanted to know more. This is essentially a direct way to provoke dialogue as per the brief.

The works are also visually appealing keeping to a common theme, in my case the black and white theme, which is another aspect of a good and successful advertising campaign.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

Ideally my campaign would be put up in public in the form of posters, billboards, paste-ups and on YouTube as a loading ad. The works would work together through different medias to create a highly successful campaign that reaches out to both a traditional and new aged audience.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

No
