Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

Exploring and linking events, ideas, actions and people that contribute to the global illicit drug trade, the source of pleasure to some. The map is designed to read at different levels of complexity, from in-depth information, to a general overview. Information is sourced from and inspired by the Count the Costs campaign, led by the Transform Drug Policy foundation.

There is no pleasure without pain.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

Mapping is used in an attempt to clearly display complex information in a graphically appealing, enticing and effective way.

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

1- Widespread recognition of drug abuse as a health issue will mitigate stigma and help improve the lives of those affected.

2- Drug legalisation is the only way to end the global drug trade and halt the extensive and excessive impacts of it.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

Sometimes issues are complex, and they may not be effective when simplified. To convince someone of an issue they need to be well informed, mapping is a nice way to do that.

Researching the topic re-enforced the control that mainstream media has on our knowledge and lives.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

My work conveys a message regardless of how long the user interacts with it, and how deeply they read the content. If they are interested they can learn more by exploring the map.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

The map can be distributed physically, folded up with extra pamphlet-ty information. It can also be distributed online, utalising social media as channel of communication.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

I haven't realistically thought about releasing my map into the wild until now, considering it was a university project. I might give it a shot but would definitely commit more time to the branding and website/digital space that it will live.
