Description of idea
Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:
As history has taught us, debt has been an integral part of human existence. All of these different times through history have one common element. There is always and will still be the existence of what I like to call the "concept of debt." Everything we know about debt will continue to be a part of our human vocabulary. To exploit this idea and help others learn from this I chose to put into place an organization like campaign to build awareness, acceptance and education, thus forming a community that learns from their mistakes, and helps us as individuals combat our debt.
What kind of communication approach do you use?
For many they did not know they had already accepted debt's continuation and I chose exploit this underlining problem, and turn it into a social awareness campaign online. This involved creating a webpage that gave many all the details that they needed to know about the ultimate goal and from there, where that could take them. This in turn would lead to building a community educating each other to fight each and everyone's personal debts and to learn from those previous mistakes. I chose to build these communities on social network platforms, as they gave me a direct link to millions of people that hopefully this communication piece can help.
What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?
For the debtlabs communication piece, it is about building a large community awareness that will help everyone accept the ever existing concept of debt, stop the denial, and thus put the focus on education which will help combat the physical forms of debt that for many is destructive. Awareness leads to acceptance! Without this acceptance, society cannot truly combat certain aspects of this debt crisis and cannot prevent another catastrophe involving debt again.
What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?
Firstly I chose to experiment with my theory of debt continuation throughout human existence by asking others to answer three questions.
1. What is your definition of debt?
2. How does it affect you?
3. What do you think will be the new form of debt in the future?
What I personally learnt from doing this experiment is that for many they had already accepted my theory, thus I moved my direction towards helping those people realise this acceptance. This in turn lead to building a community to not only help the ones I had asked to answer the questions for me but to help so many around the world that faced the same problem.
Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?
By simplifying the visuals to the essentials, it makes for a much clearer and concise communication piece. Tying this with the new advances in web design and social networking online this makes for an effective and GOOD communication WORK. This speaks to many in order to put forth a solution to a growing problem of people's denial of debt and the destructive nature it can have. The visual communication merely intrigues the viewer and ultimately leads them to the join the community.
Where and how do you intent do implement your work?
This work will be primarily online, through a webpage that will act as a site to hold the details of the venture I will undertake as well as leading to the social networks that people can join to build amazing communities. The social networks that I will build these community pages around are Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus.
Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
Not yet.
