Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

In a consumer driven world where mainstream cultural values revolve around the idea of mass production and capitalism, it is extremely easy for a designer to loose his/her sense of morality, constantly battling a work ethic built around the mainstream culture of popular demand, contributing towards the unrealistic necessities of modern life. In this manifesto you will find my expressed views opposing consume culture and adapting the practice of good design as a responsibility to constitute positive change.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

Manifesto - Setting the rebellious tone and the deceleration of ideas in a strong and bold fashion. Poster - Representation of the manifesto, capturing the emotion of consumer culture influence and the concept of 'The Innocent vs The Powerful", "David vs Goliath"

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

Change the way we view consumer culture. Making the audience pause, recognize and connect with the work, raising awareness of their responsibilities towards design and society.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

My whole perspective had changed. I had discovered a strong connection between my social values and my design practice which really inspired me to draw influence from researched works. I also felt like I had become the victim of consumer culture myself, uneducated in the ways of design responsibility and simply eager to jump into what I thought was "just a job".

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

I think it contains a STRONG and DIRECT message which can be easily interpreted. It also plays on powerful emotive language both visual and written which contrasts this idea of rebellion and change against mainstream culture. The tone of the message is also very reverberating, summoning up the suggestion that one person can make a difference against overwhelming odds.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

Online. The only way to culture jam is via popular culture itself, and on the internet anything has the potential to go viral. A pop-up add campaign would be almost ironically clever to advertising the message of "jamming the signal".

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)

Has not been published.
