I commend your research and belief that food and good food sustainably and ethically resourced is one of the fundamental pillars of our existence. I prefer the term food sovereignty over food democracy any day of the week because i believe that food sovereignty inherently addresses the relationship between people and place, essential to global progression on this topic.
I think also that this type of propoal fits very well in this category however I would have liked to have seen it go further into addressing the nature of public space and who is entitled to it and what it should be used for regarding strategies relating to guerilla gardening in places where gentrification and over develooment are rife with potential further links to the occupy movement to protect said spaces while community and local government are lobbied.
Also given that food and pleasue and dignity are so connected further extensions into the community gardens whether they are self determined or not could be used to supply local food banks with organic food which is something that would enormously improve the quality of life of aboriginal and torres strait island peoples dependent on food programs as these programs stock and are donated food that is high and sugar and also large quantaties of processed food.
For anything like this to be successful and also keeping the prime directive of any community based work in mind; never promise something you cant deliver, you need to identify skill set and capacity. Have a set admin / lobby team to handle media and comms so the designer is free to reach out and liase with traditional owners on design and yield, if there is a refugee population in the area.. where are they from and what, if any, produce from their country would grow in thus climate ? Reclaiming public space and providing a model of cohabitation that upholds human dignity and.taking a self determined design to the community and government simulataneously, is totally possible to manifest.i really enjoyed the depth and scope of your proposal. Projects like this are key to the future.
