Description of idea

Describe your idea and concept of your work in relation to the festival outlines:

The feeling of love for the planet and all living things engages a desire to protect the living world from the onslaught of industrial capitalism. With the power that I have to communicate a vision of radical transformation I am mapping the outlines of a new worldview. This tube map describes the main thinkers who influence PhD research on the visual communication of ecological literacy.

What kind of communication approach do you use?

Graphic Design

What are in your opinion concrete benefits to the society because of your communication?

Benefits to society will occur if ecological literacy is embedded in education. If we do not do the work of teaching young people the importance of living within in harmony with the earth - or living within the carrying capacity of the ecosystem, industrial culture will continue to destroy the ability for natural systems to support life. The benefits of this one poster is that it provides a resource for those who are willing to engage with this enormous challenge.

What did you personally learn from creating your submitted work?

It helped me focus on connections between different thinkers. This was an intentional goal for the project. It is also a visual practice I am attempting to strategically develop, the practice of using visual perception to enhance a sense of connectedness between items, ideas and even entities that seem separate. Ecological thinking tells us that systems are connected. It is a perhaps a perceptual error developed by the western psyche that sees things as independent rather than interdependent that is one of the problems with our current way of thinking.

Why is your work, GOOD communication WORK?

It is good because it manages to communicates a lot for one A0 poster that is also somewhat attractive.

Where and how do you intent do implement your work?

This poster is just one of many posters which are part of my practice based PhD. It is available to download on line and I will be exhibiting it at various venues in 2011/2012.

Did your intervention had an effect on other Media. If yes, describe the effect? (Has other media reported on it- how? Were you able to change other media with your work- how?)
